Beware of the Dark

Small kids are usually afraid of the dark. Sometimes they are scared to enter a dark room or even scared to go to sleep in the dark. Darkness can be a little intimidating to both kids and adults if you allow it to be. While I'm not really afraid of the dark (at least not in familiar places lol!) I am afraid of the darkness that is in the air.. There seems to be a dark spirit looming around causing things to go terribly wrong. Anyone with a heart is mourning with the families in Newtown, Connecticut. What would possess someone to commit such a violent act? Some of God's youngest angels are gone, too soon. I won't even talk about all of the senseless murders that are taking place on the streets of various cities, including my own, Chicago. These young men are so trigger happy, no one values a precious life anymore.

And then there's the Kansas City Chiefs football player who left his new baby girl in this world with no parents to care for her. Why? What could possibly be so bad in life that a person feels they have to take action in a negative way? With the economy so bad, money seems to be an issue for a lot of people.. but the football player made a nice salary so money may not have been his issue. What is it that is making people feel so unhappy, so unfulfilled and so unsatisfied?

If it's not harsh violence taking place it's some kind of child molestation case surfacing. How many more trusted adults are going to be exposed as dangerous predators?? The relative, the priest, the coach, and now Elmo.. really, ELMO? No one can be trusted around your children. That's very scary.

What about love and marriage? It seems like divorce is the latest trend and it's not just happening in Hollywood. A lot of young couples are calling it quits after only a few years of holy matrimony. No one wants to stay committed or faithful. No one wants to do what it takes to make it last forever. It's all take but no giving. Whatever happened to love and light? If I didn't know any better I'd lose all hope for love and marriage.. Happiness is being overshadowed.

Who and what influences our children? Is there anything out there that's positive for our youth to latch on to anymore? The music sucks so bad I hate to listen to the radio.. and it's not because I'm over 30, I'm still hip. I hate listening to radio because on every station, in constant rotation there's a song that praises sex, drugs or violence. Today's music is what I call "dumb down" music. Grown men and women sounding like 3rd graders chanting silly song lyrics. And the blatant disrespect is nerve wrecking, every woman is a bitch or a hoe and her body parts are always a topic of discussion. I don't think I'd be impressed if a guy dedicated any of these songs to me on the radio. *shrug* Idk, maybe it's because I'm not a "big booty girl."

I don't have children but it's very disheartening to see kids sing word from word the songs of their favorite artists.. Songs that have strong adult content. This is music your kids probably listen to every morning before they go to school because your morning radio station is always playing it. Most of the acts in the music industry today are characters and clowns but not the ones you want entertaining your kids. It's not cute when lil' Kayla drops it like it's hot. Drop some real knowledge on these kids.. they are the future.. Enlighten them.

The idiot box, I mean the TV, has turned into a boxing match. Women have taken the term "drama queen" to a new level.. Put two or more women in the same room and you're guaranteed to see a fight! These new-age women don't know what it means to be "lady like" anymore. If a woman isn't loud and obnoxious, acting a fool in public, someone isn't doing their job right. I'd bet the women who fought for our rights would be very disappointed at how we allow ourselves to be portrayed today.. Dark shadows.

Everything that I mentioned seems to go against what God would want for us. It's as if there's a dark and evil spirit that's trying to manipulate our minds. Anything that's good is bad and anything that's bad is good. Now how can that be? There's something about BAD that has always been tempting, a slight attraction that many are drawn to.. We just never know where the darkness will lead us, so beware. I know, and I hope you know, there is a spiritual war going on out here- good vs. evil. From my view, evil is working overtime on a lot of people. Our souls are at high risk. If you are a believer of GOoD you must be very cautious and aware of what is going on around you. The spirit of light is more powerful than the dark spirit that's hovering around us. Hold on to God's spirit. Be loving and kind and let your goodness rub off on someone else who may need to see that it still exists. Hold on to God's word.

My friend and I were headed on a little road trip recently. I was reading some scriptures aloud for about a good 30 minutes straight. During that time we almost got into 5 accidents within 10 minutes. My friend said, "These people out here on the road are driving so wild and crazy!" My response was "That's because we're reading God's word right now.. we are under attack." I immediately prayed to God and asked for traveling mercies. We made it to and from our destination safely but it became crystal clear to me how the enemy will try to get you if you are unaware and unprepared.

Stay prepared my friends! Don't get so caught up in the world that you forget what is real. Watch out for the darkness that's after you and those around you. Protect your loved ones. Pay attention to what doesn't look clear or sound right. Stay alert and don't be naive, anyone is capable of doing anything.. when they aren't afraid of the dark.. Beware.

Black History Month Celebrates Walter Payton!

Walter Jerry Payton was born on July 25, 1954. He was fondly known around the NFL and to fans as "Sweetness" because of his moves on the field and his kindness. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game of football. The two-time MVP played with the Chicago Bears for thirteen years (1975-1982) and during his stellar career he scored 125 touchdowns (2nd most ever), 492 receptions, he accounted for a record 21,803 combined net yards and he was a consistent threat in the passing game. In thirteen years he only missed one game and that was during his rookie season in 1975. "Never Die Easy" was Walter Payton's motto. When he practiced on the field in college at Jackson State he purposely never ran out-of-bounds and always served his tacklers punishment whenever they tried to force him down or off the field. Payton attributed his motto to his college coach, Bob Hill. Never Die Easy is also the title of his posth
